Celebrate Winter

Winter
Corresponds to the Element of Water
The Art of Listening...
Courageous Inner Exploration...
A Willingness to Dive within and Face your Fears and Limitations.
Now is the Time to Feel Life, Wisdom, Hope and Forgiveness...
Pulsating in your Bones
and
Flowing through your Breath.

Water
Visualize yourself Floating...
Flowing, Moistening and Merging.
The Reservoirs, Rivers and Streams of your Body...
gong deep within for the Wisdom of life.

The Depths of the unconscious mind,
Facing the darkness of the unknown,
The courage to be Vulnerable.
Aging with Grace and Health.

Massage your Lower Back,
Avoid cold foods and sugar.
Limit your salt intake.
And Always listen to your Dreams.
-Michael Reed Gach, Ph.D.

Autumn

In the three months of autumn all things in nature reach their full maturity.

The grains Ripen and harvesting occurs.

The Heavenly energy cools, as does the weather.

The wind begins to stir.

This is the changing or pivoting point when the yang, or active phase - turns into its opposite, the yin or quiet phase.

One should retire with the sunset and arise with the dawn.

Just as the weather in autumn can turn harsh, so can the emotional climate.

It is therefore important to remain calm and peaceful, refraining from depression so that one can make the transition to winter smoothly.

This is the time to gather one's spirit and energy, be more focused and not allow the passions of the mind to run wild.

One must keep the lung qi full, clean and quiet.

The means practicing breathing exercises to enhance lung qi.

Also, one should refrain from both smoking and grief - the emotion that injures the lungs.

This will prevent kidney or digestive problems in the winter.

-Nei Jing The Yellow Emperors Classic of Internal Medicine - 221 BC

Love your Lungs...

Imagine your body's vast network,
Take energy into your lungs,
Let go of all that is unnecessary,
Receive and store energy, eliminate wastes.

The skin breathes...
Spicy foods opens the pores:
Ginger, onions and garlic.

Let go of what is inside.
Cleaning mucus and toxins...
Like the falling leaves,
Let go;
Grieving releases a loss.

Deepen your breathing,

Channel your energy...
Consciously use the tools that you have been given.
-Michael Gach

The transformation of Yin and Yang in the 4 seasons is the basis of growth and destruction of life.

The sages were able to cultivate the Yang energy in spring and summer and conserve the Yin energy in autumn and winter.

By following the universal order - growth can occur naturally.

If this natural order is disregarded - the Root of ones's life will be damaged and one's energy will wane.

-Nei Jing
